It is essential to include this image of Christ for The Last Supper here. Although it is disputed that this is an authentic drawing by Leonardo, it does have many qualities of his work and resembles
his final mural, as far as can be seen. The original has tempera retouching that may have been done by a student or assistant - common practice at the time. Even so, it is a beautiful and eloquent
drawing that captures the moment when Christ forsees his own betrayal and death.
The face is sorrowful, and at the same time calm and somehow dispassionate. The chalk lines of the features and hair are expertly drawn and the tonal shading is masterly.
